Getting Started

So you’ve signed up, now what? This article is designed to give you the most basic information to starting your farming journey in Farm Simulator Network.

How do I earn Bux?

Bux are earned primarily through doing Contracts. The linked article can provide you an in-depth look into contracting, but for the intents of this article, know that you primarily will run contracts to generate your initial income. There are a couple of important things to note regarding contracting.

  • Contracts can be offered by NPCs, and by players.

  • Some contracts may require you to have permits to take them. Without the permit, you won’t be able to take them. You can learn more about Permits by clicking the linked article.

  • Each contracts pay will vary, and whatever the amount of the contract is will be credited to your web checking account (Located at the top of your screen).

  • In addition to bux, you will earn “Contract Tokens”. These can be redeemed later to set up contracts to have people help you on your farm (once you have one!).

  • You can only take one contract at a time. If you find you can’t do the work, you can cancel the contract. If you get part way done and have to go, you can hold a NPC contract for up to 24 hours and return to finish, but should contact the Player Farm Manager to see if this is okay for a player generated contract.

  • All contracts have a ‘minimum’ finish timer that usually correlates to the expected time to do a job. Some small jobs or audits may be as small as 5-15 minutes, but can be longer.

  • If you are using equipment that would require a permit, you must have the permit otherwise you may be fined, if you are unsure if a contract requires any permit, you can ask!

  • Contracts can take as little as a few minutes up to 20+ hours depending on the contract size. The system provides you with an ‘estimated’ amount of time to complete the job, so you know what you’re getting into beforehand!

How do I get on a server?

All FSN servers can be found in any version of the game by searching “FarmSimulator.network” and having all other filters off. Crossplay servers may need crossplay filter checked. Passwords for servers are located inside any contract that you take!

  • No matter what playstyle you choose, you can do contract work on any server.

  • All US servers restart at 3am EST, you should refrain from working on a server from 2:30am to 3:30am EST daily, or if on a AU server, from 2:30pm-3:30pm EST.

  • Servers will show where they are (Flag for country), what type they are (Regular or Ironman), and if they are DLC or not. A DLC server will require you to have all current DLC for that game version to be able to join.

  • Maintenance and all other functions regarding the website and servers function on EST, so if a time is given without Timezone information, this is the timezone you should assume unless stated otherewise!

  • You ARE allowed to take contracts on your home server.

What should I do with Bux I earn?

There is no ‘right’ answer to this, but in general if you are a person who joined and is looking to one day run their own farm, it would be wise to save the funds. You can do so by opening a savings account with a bank, or even depositing funds into a CD. Information on both can be found in the Banking System article.

In addition to saving funds, we advise you to start peeking at auctions. Auctions are how you acquire land tokens, which are required to get your first parcel of land. You can learn all about Auctions in the auctions article.

What do I do if I encounter a problem with the website, a server, or a player?

We make support easy. Simply go to the #support channel in discord, and click “Open Ticket”. Then describe your issue in as much detail as possible and staff will be with you as soon as we can! We welcome you to always be vigilant in reporting website issues, server problems, or player issues, be it player to player, or a player breaking a rule.

Where do I find a map/mod?

All maps and mods are located by clicking the grey button the right side of your home screen when logging in, just beneath the donation button. The mods are listed in master ‘packs’, and the maps are listed as individual downloads. Simply download the required files, and add them to your FS mods folder. If you have any issues with the process, please feel free to ask in our questions channels and if you still cannot find the answer you seek, open a support ticket!

How Do Taxes Work?

For the sake of brevity, taxes occur every 30 days for every member of FSN. If you are a farm, you are taxed on the value of your farm, along with your assets and property valuation. If you are a contractor, you are taxed based on your income from contracting in the past 30 days. If your income is below a certain threshold as a contractor, you receive no tax. If it is above the threshold, or if you are a farm, you are taxed according to the rates that can be found in the Taxes article.

How much should I save to start my Farm?

Again, there is no right answer here. We personally recommend that you shouldn’t start your farm until you have enough land tokens for the parcel you want, AND you have sufficient funds to buy the basic equipment you will need to operate without taking on debt. This can vary greatly, but the team recommends no less than $500,000 bux plus the needed land tokens. There are lending options available, but this can be very risky and could lead to a bankruptcy and having to start fresh! Once you are ready, simply go to the map you want, and as long as there is a farm slot available, you will be able to “buy” the plot of land with your tokens, and you will be set up by staff!

Before becoming a FM, we highly encourage you to review, or re-review, the following articles so you understand the systems, and expectations of play as a land holding member of the community!

Furthermore, if you have interest in the optional gameplay items, there are articles concerning your website (homestead) farm, and your ‘Retirement’ account, which are both fun additions to enhance your gameplay and longevity.
