Sensors
This area will discuss various sensors, there purposes, and other information to help with design decisions.
Active Sensors
Active sensors are turned on or off, and are able to detect smaller resolution targets easier (smaller HS). They primarily detect hull materials, but also can somewhat track thermal signatures from engines or other sources of thermal energy.
Resolution: HS/5 | Range: 1.0mkm/1.25mkm (T2/T3)
Modifiers are available that can tighten resolution to find smaller targets at the expense of range or that can extend range but diminish resolution making only larger items findable.
Passive Sensors
Passive sensors are always on, and are used to detect thermal output from engines, and EM output from colony locations and other space structures. They can only detect engine emissions from ships, not hulls themselves, and EM output from colonies etc.
Resolution: HS/10 | Range: 2.5mkm/3.125mkm (T2/T3)
Modifiers are available that can tighten resolution to find smaller targets at the expense of range or that can extend range but diminish resolution making only larger items findable.
ELINT Sensors
ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) sensors are designed to gather information about a target, be that a colony, a ship, or otherwise. They can only be used on items that have been acquired via a Active or Passive sensor. ELINT targets will have a rare chance to detect they are the subject of ELINT, but it will not disclose location etc.
Resolution: HS/2 | Range: .5mkm/.625mkm (T2/T3)
Modifiers are available that can tighten resolution to find smaller targets at the expense of range or that can extend range but diminish resolution making only larger items findable.
